KNOW YOUR SKIN TYPE: COMBINATION AND SENSITIVE SKIN

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Combination

This variety of skin is characterised by dry cheeks and an oily centre panel. The combination skin must be treated as two individual skins. See internal and external treatment as for oily and dry skin.

Sensitive Skin

A tendency to have broken capillaries is sometimes inherited. The veins tend to easily dilate, resulting in congestion under the surface of the skin. The capillaries in the skin become increasingly fragile as you get older, and many women are troubled with broken veins particularly on the nose and cheeks. The more immobile the facial muscles are, the more blood tends to collect instead of flowing through the area efficiently.

What Causes Sensitive Skin?

Over use of cosmetics, soaps and detergents, chlorinated water and excessive use of drugs, alcohol, coffee, cigarettes and spicy food. Avoid saunas, facial steam, hot water, extreme temperature changes, air conditioners and central heating.

Internal Treatment

THE HISTORY OF COSMETICS

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Cleopatra, the Queen of Beauty, was legendary for her use of beauty products which were made from fruits, vegetables, eggs, goats milk, sesame seeds, barley, honey, oils and herbs. She was also well known for bathing in goats milk, which according to legend kept Cleopatra virtually wrinkle free for a very long time. Cleopatra also used sesame oil or olive oil, which remamed on the skin for twenty minutes and was then scraped off with a spatula.

Egyptian Queens were buried with cosmetic chests often containing Bee’s wax and honey.

Around 1,000 BC, in the remains of the Pharaohs tombs, it was discovered that scrubs and body products came into being, clays and sand among the first to be used.

Assyrian men and women tucked waxed perfumed balls into the scalp of their braided hair, the fragrance was then released by their body heat.

The Greek Physician Galen was the first to produce a cold cream from beeswax, olive oil and water.
